Student Voice
FFC8's ultimate goal is to prepare today's youth for tomorrow's responsibilities. In order to do this, the school must listen to and provide opportunities for students to express how they feel about their school. The charts below represent student responses to questions about safety, academics, culture, and connection. This survey is administered twice a year. The most recent results are displayed below.
Our students recently completed the district-wide climate survey with encouraging results. Not only does the survey data reveal that a significant number of students identify with a trusted and expert adult—aligned with our ACCESS schedule and expert model—but it also reflects the broader, positive culture at Carson Middle School. In partnership with CU Safe School Boulder, we engaged in in-depth interviews with staff and students to explore relationships and overall school culture. Their findings indicate that our healthy culture is fostered by strong student participation, consistent student feedback, creative approaches such as our “Essential Skill Development Bingo Card,” and a genuine focus on relationship building.
Most notably, our partnership with Diagnosing Education and Dr. Chris Jensen—an expert in pediatric mental health and well-being—has further validated our approach. Through piloting essential skill work with our teaching staff, we have seen marked improvements in student self-efficacy, advocacy, confidence, and their connection with significant adults. Dr. Jensen’s research highlights that these aspects are among the highest he has encountered nationally. These positive results reaffirm that Carson Middle School is in a very good place to continue supporting and nurturing the growth of every student.
