Advanced Learning Plan

Once a student is identified as a gifted learner, the student's educational team meets to develop an Advanced Learning Plan (ALP). The Advanced Learning Plan is reviewed on a yearly basis and contains educational goals and strategies which promote academic excellence and affective competence. At the elementary level, the educational team conducts an ALP meeting with the student and the student's family to develop the ALP. At the middle and high school levels, students develop their own ALP with the support of the school gifted coordinator. Structures are in place for students to share the ALP and associated goal(s) with family members during fall Parent/Teacher Conferences.  

In accordance with Colorado criteria for an Advanced Learning Plan, the FFC8 ALP:

• Is developed around the student's area of identification, interests, academic, and affective needs.
• Contains a student profile, including the body of evidence used for the gifted identification.
• Contains one or more academic achievement goals.
• Contains one or more affective goals.
• Includes programming considerations (curriculum, activities, coursework, strategies, learning opportunities).
• Includes the personnel involved in the development and/or classroom support of the ALP.
• Includes a way to track progress toward the ALP goal(s).

To ensure a student is challenged academically and is being provided a curriculum to address their areas of giftedness, various programming options may be provided. These may include:

• Curriculum compacting or acceleration
• Flexible grouping
• Enrichment opportunities
• Independent study
• Pre-AP classes (middle school and high school)
• College-level courses (high school)
• Advanced Placement (AP)
• Extra-curricular activities
• Leadership opportunities
• College and career counseling
• District and regional competitions
