Fountain-Fort Carson School District 8 welcomes all of our military students and families and works hard to meet their unique needs in order for every student to achieve academic success while they are with us. With almost 55% of our student and family population being military-connected, it is vital for us to ensure we are doing all we can to meet your needs.

The Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children

All 50 states and the District of Columbia have signed and adopted the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children. (DoDEA cannot officially be a member, but has agreed to the concepts in the Compact, as well.) The Compact was formed to help military children with the challenges of frequent school transitions.

INTERSTATE COMPACT PARENT BROCHURE

The compact leverages consistency:

It uses a comprehensive approach that provides a consistent policy in every school district and in every state that chooses to join.
The compact addresses key educational transition issues encountered by military families including enrollment, placement, attendance, eligibility and graduation.
Children of active duty members of the uniformed services, National Guard and Reserve on active duty orders, and members or veterans who are medically discharged or retired for one year are eligible for assistance under the compact.

Moving to Our District?

If your family is planning to move into our district, we kindly ask that you notify the appropriate school in advance. Our registrars will assist you in identifying the correct school based on your address and will guide you through the registration process. You can research your neighborhood school by boundary by viewing our boundary maps.

For families coming from an overseas DODEA school, we will accept hand-carried records in a sealed envelope.

Withdrawing from FFC8?

If you are relocating to an overseas DODEA school, please contact the school(s) in our district and inform them of your departure at least one week prior to your student’s last day. The registrars will provide you with the necessary paperwork to complete.

If the overseas DODEA school is unable to send a records request/receive records through the Scribbles online system, please reach out to our school(s) to ensure the records are prepared for hand-carry in a sealed envelope. Additionally, please notify the overseas school of your intention to hand-carry the records, so they are aware of what to expect from you during the registration process at your new school.

Academic Planning

Student academic planning is done on an individual basis. Through the online registration process, families are encouraged to self-report any academic, social-emotional, or behavioral information a school may need regarding their student, as well as any pre-existing school support plans in place. CMS will use this information, as well as our own assessments, to proceed with plan implementation and potential supports for each student. Counseling/ Other Support Services

Military-connected students who need access to support services can reach out to their teacher or liasion above.

The military liaison collaborates with the MFLC, school administration, and school staff to ensure military-connected students access the support they need. The MFLC assesses student needs through one-on-one counseling, group sessions, and informal "lunch bunch" gatherings, addressing personal challenges and fostering peer connections. For more complex needs, the liaison and MFLC coordinate with school and external resources to develop comprehensive support plans. Continuous monitoring and follow-ups ensure that students remain connected to appropriate services as their needs evolve. School staff are also trained to refer students to the MFLC when they observe military-related challenges.
